Local Government Courses
A range of qualifications has been developed to support the diverse skills of the local government workforce. The qualifications include the outdoor workforce supported by specialist qualifications in operational works, administrative staff and those working in specialist planning, regulatory services or health and environment roles.
The importance of specialist occupational skills is recognised in this Training Package, however only qualifications or units of competency specifically designed for the local government industry have been incorporated in this version. This is due to the fact that it can be difficult to maintain the currency of qualifications and units of competency that are reviewed and enhanced within other Training Packages.
The framework has been designed to enable the importation of units from other Training Packages, while maintaining the integrity of the local government qualifications. Similarly, it is recognised that many specialists working within a council may choose to undertake a relevant qualification from another Training Package that meets specific occupational requirements. These people may undertake a subsequent qualification from the Local Government Training Package that reflects their evolving skill development needs and career pathways in, for example, local government administration or management.
