Traineeships

At Conwal & Associates we are committed to providing a quality training outcome for you and your employer.

Induction Visit

During your induction visit your training coordinator will:

Collect your completed Conwal & Associates enrolment form
Collect the Memorandum of Understanding – signed by yourself and your employer or supervisor
Negotiate a training plan.

Training Contract

Trainees should ensure that they familiarise themselves with all of the requirements associated with their Training Contract. This information is provided to trainees prior to and upon enrolment in the form of hard copy and electronic copy. Further information can be found at the QLD Government site.

You’re Training Plan

After negotiation with yourself and your supervisor or employer, your training coordinator will develop your training plan during the first visit to your workplace. This document must be signed by yourself, your supervisor or employer and your training coordinator. It is important that you work within the proposed timeframes. If you are not able to complete your work by the planned finish date please negotiate with your training coordinator.

Workplace visits

Your training coordinator will conduct face to face visits during your training. Each visit must be verified with signatures from yourself and your supervisor.

Monthly Contact

Your training coordinator will make monthly contact by phone or email to monitor your progress.

Withdrawal from routine duties

Trainees undertaking traineeship qualification at Certificate III or above are allowed a minimum of 3 hours per week withdrawal form their normal work duties to undertake structured training and learning activities. This withdrawal time can be averaged over a four week cycle.

In the case of trainees undertaking Certificate II qualifications the structured withdrawal time is 1.5 hours per week averaged over an eight week cycle. Your training coordinator will advise you on how best to record this information.

General Rules (classroom based)

As per the provisions of the Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000, attendance at a course of instruction is mandatory as it forms part of your Training Contract

Approval to leave classes early cannot be granted except at times of legitimate illness or emergency. If it is necessary for a trainee to leave class due to illness, you must inform a member of the training staff and complete a ‘Leave of Absence’ form. The trainee’s employer will be advised of this absence.

If a trainee is absent from class, they must upon return, complete a ‘Leave of Absence’ form, which is available from training staff. The reasons for absence must be fully explained on this form.

Absences of two (2) or more days require a Medical Certificate, which is to be attached to the trainee’s leave of absence form.

Fines

In accordance with the provisions of the Vocational Education Training and Employment Act 2000, Conwal & Associates has the authority to impose fines, reprimand, and suspend trainees from classes for the following reasons –

  • Absence from classes without reasonable excuse
  • Late arrival at classes without reasonable excuse
  • Gross misbehavior at the training premises
  • Not-participation

Conwal & Associates has the authority to impose a suspension from classes for a maximum of 3 days. Where it is considered that a longer period of suspension is warranted, the Commissioner for Training is consulted. A suspension upheld by Conwal & Associates and/or the Commissioner for Training is on the basis of no pay for the period of suspension. Training Queensland and the trainee’s employer are notified at the time of suspension.
